Jessica Sanchez singing "Change Nothing" as her third and final song on the "American Idol" finale -- the song she'd release as her first single if she won.
Wow, she starts it hushed, sitting on the piano. Lots of emotion in her voice; this is Sanchez at her vocal best. Has a great, crackly tone to her voice, and still soars on the lyrics. I can actually imagine this being...Read more »
Phillip Phillips doing Billy Joel's "Movin' Out" for his second song -- his self-chosen favorite song of the season -- on the "American Idol" finale.
It's a gritty, slightly hokey version; almost like he's in a Broadway show, acting out the song. I wasn't crazy about the song the first time he sang it, and likewise, feel like it's not Phillips at his best.
Not sure...Read more »
Jessica Sanchez's second "American Idol" finale song -- her self-chosen favorite performance of the season -- is Celine Dion's version of "The Prayer."
It's sung perfectly, with just the right touch of emotion and pace -- slow, deliberate and compelling.
Can't take your eyes away; she performs it like a pro, one of those songs she was just born to sing. Easily nails...Read more »
Phillip Phillips is singing Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" on the "American Idol" finale, a song chosen for him by the show's creator, Simon Fuller.
He's compelling; slows it way down, meshes it well with his usual acoustic guitar sound. Has an interesting tone that, combined with some unexpected tempo choices, makes the whole performance feel fresh. Haven't been a big Phillips...Read more »
Jessica Sanchez sings first on the "American Idol" finale, doing Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing," the choice of the show's creator, Simon Fuller.
She comes out in a long gown, singing slow and controlled. She's been my favorite all season, but it's not a special performance for me. Not a great song or choice, in my opinion, and although her vocals are strong as always,...Read more »

Our nine “Idol” psychics were split on who’ll be eliminated tonight — three votes for Jessica, six for Joshua. As for Phillip, his performance of Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight” may have been...Read more »
On Wednesday night’s “American Idol,” the Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips performed three songs each, fighting for their spot in the final two.
Joshua Ledet, 20, was the first performer and he got all three judges up on their feet after his strong rendition of Etta James’ "I’d Rather be Blind."
His other songs, "Imagine" by John Lennon and "No...Read more »
In what may have been a last-ditch effort to show off her versatility both musically, and in fashion, Jessica Sanchez dramatically changed up her styles and songs for each of her three appearances on "American Idol" last night.
It was diva time at first as Sanchez took on Mariah Carey’s “My All” for which she wore a formal, deep purple strapless evening gown that featured ruffled...Read more »
Bob Seger was Jimmy Iovine's choice for Phillip Phillips final song on Wednesday's "Idol."
"That's you!" Phillips' dad says upon hearing the choice of "We've Got Tonight."
It was another slow one for Phillips but he handled it well. For the first time without his guitar all night, the rocker from Georgia wore all black and focused on his vocals.
