The rare children's film with enough substance to intrigue adults, "Battle for Terra" may have a difficult time finding an audience. As this animated fantasy unfolds, moments of whimsy quickly give way to genuine terror. The 3-D effects are state-of-the-art, but the film belongs to an older era of sci-fi: serious, allegorical, full of big questions.
