Jellyfish in Centerport is starting to look like a veritable revolving door, now banking on its third chef since the New American place opened in the fall with James McDevitt, a Newsday All-Star Chef. The most recent chef, Matt Murphy, has departed; his replacement is former Bravo Top Chef contender Danny Gagnon, who was in charge of the kitchen at DoraNonnie in Glen Head.

Greg Ling, who had been executive chef at the Riverhead Project since it opened in May 2011 (and earned three stars from Newsday's Peter Gianotti), has left the restaurant. Taking over for Ling is Roy Wohlars who was, until recently, executive chef at South Edison in Montauk. According to owner Dennis McDermott, Wohlars will introduce a new seafood-focused menu in the next few weeks.

The night I stop into Gyrolicious in Jericho, there’s a 10-minute wait for a table. Looking around the room, I note the enormity of portion sizes. And, checking out the menu, the ultra-moderate prices.

Three of Long Island's 17 La Bottega franchises have gone independent, each changing its name but keeping most of the grill-pressed sandwiches and salads from before. On the menu, some dishes have also had name changes.

A new burger chain makes its Long Island debut Tuesday. BurgerFi, based in Florida, will start serving a menu of cooked-to-order hormone-and-antibiotic-free burgers, specialty hot dogs, freshly cut fries and more. Sustainability is big here, with recycled materials used to fabricate the furniture. Chairs, for example, are fashioned out of recycled Coke bottles.

Parkside Cafe, perched above the canals of Seaford, was nearly demolished by superstorm Sandy. As owner Joe Bonomo tells it, the place had to be stripped down to the studs, its interior rebuilt entirely.
