Stephen Rosenbluth has spent his career cooking at big, corporate restaurants — he ran kitchens at Legal Seafoods in Roosevelt Field and Nick & Stef’s Steakhouse and Naples 45 in Manhattan. Now the 36-year-old chef has opened his own little “New American seafood house” near the water in Merrick, Anchor Down.
Rosenbluth’s menu features seafood classics such as a daily selection of raw oysters,...Read more »

Plenty of 13-year-old boys love pizza. Ordering and eating it, that is. But Andy Mosolino decided he’d rather make and market it.
Mosolino's partially cooked “take-n-bake” pies are sold at The Deli Counter Fine Foods in Southampton (which is owned by his father, Michael Mosolino) as well as at such East End venues as Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead and Sir Ivan’s Castle in Water Mill.

July is busting out all over at Jedediah Hawkins Inn. Craig Attwood, who took over the kitchen earlier this year from Richard Kanowsky, is making good use of the Jamesport inn’s lovely grounds.
On Thursday nights, Attwood serves barbecued chicken, pork ribs, corn and cornbread starting at 5 p.m. ($28). And an old fire truck is on hand to dispense craft beer from Riverhead’s Crooked Ladder...Read more »

The Phoenix in Seaford has closed. The restaurant, decorated in stark red and black, was named for a mythical bird that cyclically dies and is reborn from its own ashes.
Indeed, the place started life as a fireball, earning a three-star review in 2012 for its inventive repertoire dominated by small plates. Although subsequent chef changes and inconsistencies resulted in a fall from glory,...Read more »
The aromas and flavors of India are inviting you to Southampton.
Saaz, an Indian restaurant and the offspring of The Curry Club in East Setauket, arrived earlier this week on County Road 39, at the quick-turning address most recently occupied by Spiro's.
The new restaurant features a $15 lunch buffet. On weekends, it's $16. At dinner, you'll find an array of curries, from plain to fired-up...Read more »
One of Long Island’s most imaginative ice-cream parlors has closed. The New York Stuffed Cone Co. in St. James was dedicated to owner Dave Saracino’s vision of a world of ice cream cones not just topped with sprinkles—or nuts or bits of candy—but where the toppings were layered along with the ice cream right inside the cone.
Apparently it was a vision too beautiful to live. The shop closed...Read more »
On July 20, Chip ’n Dipped, the Huntington Village bakery-chocolatier-coffee shop, will be serving up beverages a wee bit stronger than coffee. Owner Peter Goldfarb has cooked up a chocolate and wine tasting event, pairing his own handmade chocolates with North Fork wines from Martha Clara Vineyards (sauvignon blanc, riesling, Northville Red), Duckwalk Vineyards (Blueberry Port, Windmill White and...Read more »
The rotisseries are spinning at the new Azafrán Colombian Restaurant, which recently opened in the St. James strip mall space that’s hosted a string of predecessors — the short-lived Sweet Tomato Brick Oven Pizza & Grill and almost-as-fleeting Attilio’s Grill; before that was the long-standing Bella Vita City Grill.
Chef-owner Israel Bustos previously cooked at Pollos Mario in Queens....Read more »
