First, let's say something nice about Casey James, who will not be heading into the finals, as you now know.
Decent voice and excellent guitarist, and - if the on-screen performances during the past three months are any indication - a good guy too.
But the Final Two was not to be for James. He knew it, fans knew it, and (following the cold bath he got by those four millionaires sitting in judgment of him Tuesday) viewers knew it too.
Tuesday was a very bad night for James.
The result is an "American Idol" finale next week that pits the two best performers on stage Wednesday night and the two best performers of the season. Who are they?
Crystal Bowersox - who nearly dropped out in March because of complications from diabetes - has a very good voice that wobbled a bit on Tuesday. She almost seemed shocked Wednesday night that the dice rolled in her favor.
Of Bowersox, we learned Wednesday night that she's emotional, cares deeply about her hometown, Toledo, and Toledo fans - who have dubbed her "Mama Sox" - have apparently returned the favor.
The other finalist is Lee DeWyze.
He has a good voice that got stronger week after week during the ninth season. On Tuesday, everything went his way, including the judges.
Who will win next week? We'll know next week.
