People magazine has named singer and "The Voice" coach Adam Levine as this year's Sexiest Man Alive, succeeding 2012's Channing Tatum.
"As a musician, you have fantasies that you want to win Grammys, but I didn't really think that this was on the table," Levine, 34, told the magazine in the issue being published Friday. "I was just amazed and stunned and it almost seemed like they were kidding, but they weren't, so that's cool."
The Los Angeles native, lead vocalist for the band Maroon 5 since 1994, credits his fitness to yoga and spinning, the magazine said. He was scheduled to formally accept the award Wednesday night on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Levine has been engaged since July to Victoria's Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo. He and the Namibian model began dating last year, then broke up and later reconciled shortly before he proposed, his rep said at the time. "I didn't think marriage was for me for a long time," the singer told People. "I was ready when I was ready. That's about as simple as it could possibly be."
He had previously dated model Anne Vyalitsyna, who has appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue every year since 2005.
"This is just a really interesting time where everything seems to be heading in a certain direction," Levine said. "And I'm not taking any of it for granted."
Maroon 5, whose hits include "Love Somebody" and "One More Night," announced in April that the band was recording its fifth studio album.
