Former child star Amanda Bynes says she's contemplating a move from Los Angeles to New York City to pursue a career in fashion design.

The troubled one-time star of Nickelodeon's "The Amanda Show" and The WB's "What I Like About You" was seen visiting Manhattan during the weekend, TMZ reported, noting that she wandered around midtown for hours on Saturday.

"I am retired as an actor," Bynes told People last week. "I am moving to New York to launch my career. I am going to do a fashion line. I am not talking about being arrested for DUI because I don't drink, and I don't drink and drive. It is all false."

In recent months, Bynes has racked up numerous traffic citations, a driving-under-the-influence arrest, and on Sept. 16 had her car impounded for driving with a suspended license.

Her trial on misdemeanor DUI and other charges is scheduled for Oct. 29, but according to Radar Online, Bynes is not required to be present in court.

Radar refuted reports that the actress' parents recently moved to Los Angeles from Texas to keep tabs on their daughter, saying that her parents moved to California some time before Bynes' legal issues began. However, the site said the actress has kept out of contact with her family for no immediately discernible reason.

E! also said that, despite online reports to the contrary, Bynes has not been dropped by her New York publicist.
