At Met Costume Gala celebs like Tiger Woods, Beyoncé get their punk on

Stars including Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Beyonce and Madonna embrace the punk theme of this year's annual Met Gala in New York, and Anne Hathaway goes blond (May 7)

Mosh pits and punk rock don't usually mix with Upper East Side galas, but Beyoncé, Rooney Mara, Anna Wintour, Tiger Woods, Alec Baldwin and Anne Hathaway all tried to rock it like the Sex Pistols (or some fashionable facsimile) at Monday night's Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala.

"I don't think I'm very punk," Mara admitted, wearing a white lace Givenchy gown that, in truth, seemed more "Little House on the Prairie" -- although it did have some heavy-duty zippers.

The gala celebrates the Costume Institute's new exhibit, "Punk: Chaos to Couture," which opens Thursday, tracing punk rock's influence on high fashion, from its birth in the 1970s onward.

Monday night's event was tricky -- what to wear to the social event of the season when it's honoring ripped tees, spiked hair and safety pins?

Sarah Jessica Parker went with a major mohawk headpiece, courtesy of British hat designer Philip Treacy. Katie Holmes wore a tattered train from Calvin Klein. Sienna Miller sported a spiky leather jacket. Anne Hathaway unleashed a new 'do (platinum!) and Tiger Woods his new gal, Lindsey Vonn.

And "Homeland's" Damien Lewis had to lift up his foot to a railing to show off his silver-studded lace-ups. "We're feeling angry and full of rebellion," he shouted, then smiled. "How else are we supposed to feel on punk night?"
