Two girls required treatment for fainting and 50 police officers were needed to form a human cordon Thursday in Liverpool, England, when hordes of Justin Bieber fans swarmed the Hard Days Night Hotel, where the 17-year-old singer is staying during his concert tour's stop in the Beatles' hometown.

A spokesman for the local Merseyside Police said in a statement that "Officers are working with the management of the hotel and with Justin Bieber's security team to ensure his safety, the safety of other guests and of the crowd."

A witness at the hotel told the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, "Justin did intend to go on a Beatles tour of Liverpool but the situation with fans means he can't get out. . . . The screaming is so loud it could make your ears bleed. At one point he twitched the curtain of his room and that caused a near-riot."
