Sharon Murphy, mother of the late actress Brittany Murphy, Monday blasted claims by Brittany's estranged biological father that the "Clueless" star had been murdered.

In an open letter to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy decried 87-year-old Angelo Bertolotti's assertion that a lab test on a hair sample showed high concentrations of heavy metals, suggesting poisoning. "His claims are based on the most flimsy of evidence and are more of an insult than an insight into what really happened," she wrote.

Accusing the laboratory Bertolotti used of being "an Internet site that farmed out the actual testing and then wrote horribly untrue things under the guise of 'analysis,' " Murphy noted that "a sample of hair is not considered dependable unless it is backed up by tests of tissue and blood and other analysis -- which he [Bertolotti] did not do."
