“Empire” stars Trai Byers and Grace Gealey have announced they are husband and wife.
“We’re married!” each posted on Instagram Sunday night, accompanying the same photo of the two happily in an embrace. “God is so good. To all who have extended congrats and well wishes, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Love, Mr. & Mrs. Byers.”
TMZ.com had first reported the news that Byers, 32, and Gealey, 31, married at a mansion on Grand Cayman Island in the Caribbean on April 14. The site posted what it said was a guest-list card for the wedding reception. None of the couple’s fellow “Empire” cast-members were among the approximately 50 listed guests, which TMZ said was limited to close friends and relatives.
Byers portrays Empire Entertainment executive Andre Lyon on Fox’s hit music-industry drama series, while Gealey plays A&R woman Anika Calhoun, a.k.a. Boo Boo Kitty.
The two were coy about relationship rumors, but Gealey, a theater actress who made her screen debut on “Empire,” confirmed the engagement in October, on an episode of the daytime talk show “FABLife.” She first spoke about the nature of on-set relationships, saying, they can work “if two people are mature” and that “if you do get involved at your workplace you have to know that this is something that you want to be invested in, and this is just not something that is frivolous and fleeting.” Displaying an engagement ring, she told the hosts, “For real, for real. Not a fling.” When host Tyra Banks asked directly, Gealey replied, “I’m engaged.”
People magazine said at the time that Byers had proposed in late July.
