Oscar-winner Halle Berry and her husband of two years, actor Olivier Martinez, are divorcing.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," the couple said in a statement to TMZ.com Tuesday. "We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children's privacy, as we go through this difficult period."
The couple have a 2-year-old son, Maceo Robert Martinez. Berry also has a 6-year-old daughter, Nahla, with her former partner, model Gabriel Aubrey. Berry and French actor Martinez, both 49, married July 13, 2013, at the Chateau des Conde in Vallery, France.
TMZ said irreconcilable differences was listed as the reason in Berry's petition, and that she and Martinez have a prenuptial agreement and expect a noncontentious divorce.
"Monster's Ball" Academy Award-winner Berry, who plays the mutant superhero Storm in the "X-Men" movie franchise, met Martinez when they filmed the thriller "Dark Tide" in South Africa in 2010. In March 2012, he confirmed their engagement, which had been rumored since that January.
Berry married baseball player David Justice on New Year's Day 1993, but filed for divorce in April 1996. She went on to wed R&B musician Eric Benét in January 2001, but they announced their separation in October 2003 and finalized their divorce in January 2005. She met Aubry at a Versace photo shoot in February 2006. The two broke up four years later.
Martinez was sued earlier this month by a Los Angeles International Airport employee whom he had shoved to the ground with a baby seat in January, in an incident caught on video. TMZ suggested arguments over the suit proved a breaking point after long-simmering disagreements between the couple.
