The 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards honor outstanding representations of the gay, bisexual, lesbian and transgender communities in media and entertainment, and some of this year’s nominees, announced today, have Hudson Valley ties.
“Cloud Atlas,” starring Susan Sarandon, who owns a home in Pound Ridge, received a nod for outstanding film (wide release). The film is up against “Paranorman,” “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Your Sister’s Sister."
“Go On,” which features Yonkers native Tyler James Williams, was nominated for outstanding comedy. Other nominees include “Glee,” “The New Normal,” “Modern Family” and “Happy Endings.”
“American Horror Story: Asylum,” which stars Jessica Lange, who has called Palisades home, is nominated for outstanding TV movie or miniseries, as is “Political Animals,” created by Rye native Greg Berlanti and starring Ellen Burstyn and Sebastian Stan, who both have Rockland County roots. “Hit or Miss” is the third nominee in the category.
And Rhinebeck native Rufus Wainwright is nominated for outstanding music artist for his latest album, “Out of the Game.” He’ll vie for the award along with Frank Ocean, Adam Lambert, Gossip and Scissor Sisters.
The winners will be announced March 16 in New York and also at ceremonies in April and May in Los Angeles and San Francisco. See the full list of nominees on the GLAAD website.
