Halloween events in Hudson Valley: tickets now on sale

From haunted houses to pumpkin patches, Halloween is big in the Hudson Valley. And for all you advance planners out there, tickets are now on sale for some of the spookiest and spine-tingling area events.

Produced by Historic Hudson Valley, the Tarrytown nonprofit educational organization that owns and operates Philipsburg Manor, Kykuit and Washington Irving's Sunnyside, among other historic Westchester venues, the following events should appeal to adults and kids alike. According to Rob Schweitzer, the director of public relations for Historic Hudson Valley, tickets do sell out, so get tickets soon to reserve your spot.

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze: More than 5,000 hand-carved jack o'lanterns are displayed at Van Cortlandt Manor for this annual event, providing an interactive sensory experience for visitors who take part in the 45-minute walk-through. The Blaze runs for 22 nights between Oct. 6 and Nov. 11. Tickets, which are sold for a specific time in half-hour increments between 5:30 and 10 p.m. depending on the night, are $16 ($20 on Saturdays), $12 for children 3 to 17 ($16 on Saturdays) and free for children under 3. Horseman’s Hollow: If you’re looking to relive the frightful tale of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” Philipsburg Manor is recreating the horror story as a haunted house attraction for the third year in a row. The event is running 11 evenings from Oct. 6 to 28, and due to the high thrill factor, is recommended for kids ages 10 and above. Tickets are available in half-hour increments from 7 to 9 or 9:30 p.m., depending on the day, and are $20 ($25 on Saturdays) for adults and children 17 and under. Info: Philipsburg Manor, 381 N. Irving’s Legend: If you’re a fan of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” but the Horseman’s Hollow attraction sounds too scary, you can hear a dramatic retelling of the iconic story by actor Jonathan Kruk at the Old Dutch Church, just across the street from Philipsburg Manor. The event will run in the evening hours from Oct. 6 to Oct. 28, and tickets are $16, $14 for children 18 and under. Info: Old Dutch Church, Sleepy Hollow, 381 N. Legend Celebration: This family-friendly celebration held at Washington Irving's Sunnyside estate takes place in the daytime, so the little ones can take part in the Halloween fun. The celebration, which will include ghost stories, live music, magicians and puppeteers, takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends from Oct. 6 to Oct. 28.
