Jay-Z, Beyonce release new songs this week
Beyonce and Jay-Z are arguably music’s top power couple, and the two, who received their marriage license in Scarsdale, are both making headlines this week with new releases.
On Sunday, Beyonce dropped the new single “Bow Down/I Been On,” a track that could foreshadow what we can expect from her next album, due out this year. In the song, she refers to her high-profile marriage with the following lyrics: “I took my time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife. Don’t get it twisted, this is my [expletive].”
Now Jay-Z has new music out as well, in the form of a remix of Kendrick Lamar’s single “B... Don’t Kill My Vibe.”
The song had its debut at the recent SXSW festival and was released online Monday via the website of Funkmaster Flex, who owns a home in Ardsley. On the track, Jay-Z contributes two verses that include references to spending time with the Obamas. After rapping about hanging out at the White House, Jay-Z also seems to reference Chappaqua resident Hillary Rodham Clinton with the lyric “Sittin' next to Hillary smellin' like dank.”
Perhaps Jay-Z’s referring to sitting next to the Clintons during President Barack Obama’s second inauguration? Although in the previous line he mentions another Hillary: Oscar winner Hilary Swank. In any case, we’re not sure how either one would feel about being mentioned in a Jay-Z song in which he talks about smelling like an illegal substance.
