Justin Timberlake talks Kanye West diss on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'
Justin Timberlake kicked off his weeklong stint appearing on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” by dismissing rumors that he was feuding with Kanye West.
During a London concert last month, West took a jab at Timberlake when he rapped: “I got love for Hov/but I ain't [expletive] with that 'Suit & Tie.' " Timberlake seemed to respond to West’s criticisms by changing a lyric while performing "Suit & Tie" on “Saturday Night Live.” When Fallon asked him about the lyric change, Timberlake professed innocence.
"I don't remember that," Timberlake said. "Did I change a line? It is live. You know, really, everyone keep calm."
Timberlake added that he had no issues with the rap star.
"Let me just say, for the record, " Timberlake said. "I absolutely love Kanye. So there's that. We love Kanye, right?"
Timberlake sat down with Fallon for the first of his five appearances on the late-night show this week. The actor/musician will be sitting down for guest chats with Fallon again on Friday, as well as performing each night as the show’s musical guest. We hope that besides performing songs from his new album, “The 20/20 Experience,” due out March 19, he’ll also favor us with a JT classic -- perhaps he could bring “Sexyback"?
And because “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon, a former Saugerties resident, has a long-standing friendship with Timberlake, dating back to the days when Fallon was an “SNL” cast member and Timberlake was hosting the show, here are three things we hope to see on the Timber-fied version of Fallon’s show sometime this week.
1. “Barry Gibb Talk Show.” Timberlake reprised some of his famous “SNL” characters during his fifth time hosting the show, but his impression of Robin Gibb was not one of them. Thankfully, this oversight can be rectified on “Late Night” because Fallon plays the high-voiced and high-strung Barry Gibb. So the two can keep “talkin’ it up” about “chest hair” and “crazy cool medallions” and we can hear that catchy theme song one more time.
2. “The History of Rap.” Fallon and Timberlake have celebrated the history of rap three times now, so it would be great to see them tackle another music genre. How about the history of boy bands? The two could sing the greatest hits of everyone from The Beatles to N’Sync to One Direction.
3. Something new. Simply put, we’d love to be wowed by an original Fallon-Timberlake collaboration. How about Fallon trotting out his Neil Young impression to duet with Timberlake as Elton John for a cover of Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”?
