Kate Mara lands role in Johnny Depp film 'Transcendence'
Kate Mara has landed her first major role since the debut of her Netflix series, “House of Cards,” earlier this year. The Bedford native has signed on to star in “Transcendence,” the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister.
Mara tweeted the news about her latest project on Wednesday.
According to Vulture, “Transcendence” stars Johnny Depp as a scientist whose brain is uploaded to a computer. It’s unknown what role Mara will play in the film, which the site calls “top secret.” But Indiewire speculates that Mara is portraying a member of a terrorist group referred to in the film’s script as the “tattooed baker.”
Vulture also reports that her sister Rooney was up for a role in the film, but that the part ended up going to actress Rebecca Hall.
Looks like Mara will be busy in the coming months. She told Newsday Westchester that the second season of “House of Cards” is set to begin filming this spring; “Transcendence” will start shooting in April, for a scheduled April 2014 release.
