Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez appeared to criticize her ex-husband, singer Marc Anthony, in a new interview in which she also says she believed early on that their marriage was a mistake.
“Musicians are too self-absorbed. They are too concerned with themselves to be great in bed,” Lopez, 46, told W magazine in an interview conducted in early March and posted online Wednesday. She added, “I hung in there for seven years,” after her and Anthony’s June 2004 marriage. “I knew very quickly that it wasn’t the right thing.”
Anthony’s spokeswoman told Newsday the comments were open to misinterpretation. “She’s talking about finding forgiveness for herself, not anyone else, and is not the first time she talks about how hard it was for both of them to separate.”
Lopez told W that, “When it comes to work, I never get tired. But with personal failures, I have thought, this is too hard. When my marriage ended, it was not easy to find forgiveness. It wasn’t the dream that I had hoped for, and it would have been easier to fan the flames of resentment, disappointment, and anger. But Marc is the father of my children, and that’s never going away. So, I have to work to make things right. And that is, by far, the hardest work I do.”
The couple’s twins, Max and Emme, were born on Long Island in February 2008. Lopez and Grammy- and Latin Grammy Award-winner Anthony, 47, announced in July 2011 they were ending their marriage, and Anthony filed for divorce in April 2012. It was finalized June 16, 2014.
Since 2011, Lopez has been in an on-and-off relationship with dancer-actor Casper Smart, who maintains a home separate from hers. “We got together and broke up and are now together again,” she told W. “I still think about getting married and having that long life with someone. I love the [romantic drama] movie ‘The Notebook.’ A dream of mine is to grow old with someone.”
