"The View" co-host Jenny McCarthy announced on the show Wednesday that she and "Blue Bloods" star Donnie Wahlberg are getting married.
"I just got engaged!" the writer-comedian, 41, exclaimed to her co-hosts, displaying what she described as a yellow sapphire engagement ring.
McCarthy said the proposal over the weekend involved her son Evan Asher, 11, from her 1999 to 2005 marriage to actor-director John Asher. "I was sitting with Donnie . . . and he went into the other room and out came Evan with a card that said 'Will.' . . . And then Evan ran away and Evan came back with a card that said 'You,' and then he ran away and I knew what was happening and I just started crying," she said. "And then Evan came back with a card that said 'Marry,' but spelled wrong, it said 'M-A-R-Y,' and then the last, you know, time Donnie came out with Evan, and Donnie's shirt said 'Me?' "
Wahlberg had the ring in his hand, and then popped the question.
"I, of course, said yes," McCarthy said. "And in that moment, Evan yelled, 'I have another dad! I have another dad.' "
She added, "It made all of us cry. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. He's so wonderful."
Wahlberg, 44, came onto the set shortly afterward and kissed her. The two began dating last summer after having met that March when Wahlberg appeared on her now-defunct VH1 talk show.
Wahlberg, who is also the brother of actor Mark Wahlberg, has two sons, Xavier and Elijah, with ex-wife Kim Fey. The couple married in August 1999 and separated in January 2008, each filing for divorce that August.
"Thank you for all the sweet wishes," McCarthy tweeted afterward, "Donnie Wahlberg and I are grateful and blessed."
Wahlberg also paid a nod to fans from his New Kids on the Block days in his tweet: "Thanks for all the well wishes & support! Jenny & I are so grateful! We have to figure out a way to celebrate with Blockheads!"
