Rapper Kanye West reportedly has gone home to his wife and children, more than a week after having been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital for a psychiatric emergency.
TMZ.com on Wednesday, without giving a specific release date, said the 39-year-old music star and fashion entrepreneur had left the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA Medical Center in the company of his spouse, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, and his personal physician, Dr. Michael Farzam. E! News, a division of the cable network E!, which airs the long-running “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” said Wednesday it also had confirmed West’s release.
On Nov. 19, West had arrived late to a Sacramento concert, and shortly after it began launched into a stream-of-consciousness tirade before leaving the stage and cutting short the show. He soon canceled the remainder of his Saint Pablo Tour, which had been set to conclude Dec. 30 and 31 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Two days later, paramedics responded to a call from the Los Angeles home of his trainer, Harley Pasternak. TMZ.com, quoting a police report, said West’s physician Farzam had placed the rapper on a 5150 psychiatric hold, referring to section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code. Under this, someone exhibiting a “mental disorder” or who is “gravely disabled” may be taken to a medical facility “for 72-hour treatment and evaluation.”
Anonymous sources have disputed the report, claiming that while West was hospitalized as a “psychiatric emergency” due to sleep deprivation and dehydration, it was not a 5150 hold. TMZ on Wednesday said West had suffered a nervous breakdown triggered by the anniversary of his late mother Donda’s funeral on Nov. 20, 2007, and that this time of year has been difficult for him since.
Additionally, said earlier reports, paranoia had been building in West for months, exacerbated by Kardashian, 36, being robbed on Oct. 3 at her hotel apartment in Paris while he was performing at The Meadows Music and Arts Festival at Citi Field.
