Days after Naomi Watts expressed both trepidation and hope following her recent breakup with Liev Schreiber after 11 years and two children, fellow actor Schreiber said he felt likewise.

“Yeah. Of course it is,” he responded to “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King on Thursday when she asked if the change was “scary” for him. “But,” the 49-year-old “Ray Donovan” star continued, “you know, we’re parents together so we’ll be together for the rest of our lives no matter what and we’re very close. . . . Hopefully, that never changes and I don’t think it will.”

He said one reason he took on a starring role in the current Broadway revival of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses,” which runs at the Booth Theatre through Jan. 8, was, “I wanted to be close to the kids, and I wanted to pick a job that would put me in New York and keep me in New York. And this was a job that was in the city and it kept me around the kids,” referring to his sons Sasha, 9, and Kai, who turns 8 later this month.

“The problem,” the Tony-winning star added, “is that you have no time to be with them on a theater schedule.”

Two-time Oscar-nominee Watts, 48, told the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph last week, “I feel like change is always scary, but that’s only because transition for anyone is new and you wonder how things are going to go.” She added, “I feel I’m in a good place in my life and I want to make sure my kids are healthy, my kids are happy and things are going to go well. Those are my hopes for me and for all of us.”

In late September, the never-married couple announced in a statement: “Over the past few months we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship. While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy.”

Watts, who owns a beach house in Amagansett, is currently filming the upcoming Netflix series “Gypsy” in New York.
