Report: Chris Brown, Drake entourages fight in NYC club
The NYPD is investigating a brawl at a lower Manhattan nightclub early Thursday that left singer Chris Brown and several others injured.
Brown's publicist said in a statement that Brown, girlfriend Karrueche Tran and friends "were victims of a brutal attack last night at W.i.P. They sustained several injuries. Chris and his party are cooperating with N.Y. authorities who are pursuing this incident further."
Initial reports suggested hip-hop performer Drake was involved, but his representative denied this in a statement, saying "Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.i.P. He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began. He did not engage in any activity [that] resulted in injury to person or damage to property."
Neither performer was on the scene when police arrived around 4 a.m. Thursday, according to The Associated Press, which reported that four women and one man, all bystanders, suffered cuts and that Brown's bodyguard suffered a more serious cut on the head. They were treated and released from a hospital later in the day.
Brown tweeted a photo of himself Thursday with a cut chin, then later removed the photo, as well as other messages about the fight, including epithets and taunts.
Witnesses told police that two men approached Brown's table and asked him whether he had a problem with Drake, and he replied he did not. Later, as Brown was leaving the club, five men blocked his way on the dance floor and started taking off their shirts and yelling, police said.
At some point during the faceoff, bottles started flying. Chief NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said it's not clear whether the bottles were tossed by members of either performer's entourage, or if bar patrons eager to egg on a dispute started throwing them.
