Todd English, celebrity chef, charged with DWI in Southampton

Celebrity chef Todd English was charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday in Southampton Town, police said.

English, whose full name is William Todd English, was stopped about 3:33 a.m. for drifting out of his lane on County Road 39, Southampton Town police said.

English, 54, of New York City, refused a Breathalyzer test, police said.

He was arraigned Sunday morning at Southampton Town Justice Court and released on $1,500 bail on the misdemeanor charge.

“We adamantly deny the allegations levied against Mr. English and look forward to addressing this matter in a court of law,” English’s attorney, Edward Burke Jr. of Sag Harbor, said in an email.

English has a culinary empire including restaurants, cookbooks and a catering operation. Catering clients have included singer John Legend and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, according to English’s website.

English has also opened several restaurants nationwide, including Olives, which has locations in Las Vegas, the Bahamas and Mexico City, and Figs with locations in Kuwait and Boston, according to English’s website.

English is a four-time James Beard Award winner, according to a biography on the website for Todd English P.U.B., one of his restaurants, located in Las Vegas and Alabama.

English has appeared on many television shows, including “Iron Chef USA” on the Food Network.
