Bernadette Peters made her first foray to the Hamptons Saturday night to attend the Heat Benefit Celebration at photographer Steven Klein’s Bridgehampton estate for the new Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital. The next morning, more than 1,100 runners gathered in front of the hospital for the first Southampton Ellen’s Run. “It’s a very important event,” Peters told us. “I’m just here for tonight. I’m relaxing at a friend’s house, which I love.”

Peters contributes serious sweat equity to the causes she loves. “I’m getting ready to do a big concert Nov. 9, in New York, at Minskoff theater to benefit Broadway BARCs and Broadway Cares (Equity Fights AIDs),” she says. “It’ll be a big show." Animal lover Peters helped found BARC, the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition. “ I’m going to LaJolla to do a concert and I’ll spend some time there and in LA.” The concert will benefit the Salk Institute.

And the first half of the summer? “I did a concert in Australia in June,” she says, referring to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival that she headlined. “I love it there. It’s just fabulous.”
