Local hip-hop hero LL Cool J could be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. And so could metal stalwarts Kiss.

They are part of a mixed bag of 12 acts that are vying for the class of 2010. Other nominees include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and Laura Nyro. The other nominees - ABBA, The Chantels, Darlene Love, Donna Summer and The Stooges - have been on the ballot before.

To be eligible for nomination, an act had to have released its first single or album at least 25 years before the year of nomination - or this year, no later than 1984.

Five of the nominees will be announced as inductees in January, with the induction ceremony taking place March 15 at the Waldorf-Astoria, according to a statement from the Cleveland-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
