Siam Lotus

Siam Lotus consistently ranks among the top Thai restaurants on Long Island. This little charmer prepares fine food, full of flavor.

It's an amiable, boxy eatery that amounts to an oasis for vibrant fare. You can taste all the familiar Thai dishes, and be more adventurous, too.

Curry puffs, with chicken and potatoes, and the beef satay are elemental and essential openers. So's the spicy shrimp soup, a tingling production heady with lemongrass.

Curries are reliable courses. The one with chicken, coconut milk, chiles, peanuts and avocado is a definite winner. "Volcano" shrimp lives up to its fiery name. Deep-fried snapper with garlic and chiles; boneless duck; and frogs' legs with basil and chiles are among the zesty entrees.

Litchis and rambutan are the apropos endings, refreshing and to the point, much like Siam Lotus itself.
