The Hamptons: Westhampton

An aerial view of Westhampton Beach

The aura of the Hamptons began in 1870 when Westhampton Beach residents started renting rooms to travelers who came from Manorville via the LIRR. The trend keeps going 137 years later.

This traveler's guide to the Westhampton area, including Westhampton Beach, Hampton Bays, Quoque and Eastport, is a bit more up-to-date than the one back in 1870.

Once Upon A Time
Montauk Highway, East Quoque
631-653-8197
Owner of the Shoe Vixen has taken over this consignment shop that has been around for some 20 years, thoroughly renovating it and adding inventory. Great gently worn designer clothes are available for a fraction of the original price. In fact, early this May, a pair of Prada shoes went for $12!

Lynne's Cards & Gifts
137 Main St., West Hampton Beach
631-288-1312
The place is such a central hangout that owner Lynne Jones says she's like a bartender, minus the alcohol. "We know everybody's story," she says. Jones, who took over the 33-year-old shop 14 years ago, sells magazines, newspapers, greeting cards, fine stationery, tchotchkes such as yo-yos, and picture frames. Kids congregate in the place, and you might spot luminaries such as Adam Sandler and Michael J. Fox.
