Restored farmhouse, birthplace of America's great poet, was built about 1816 by Whitman's father. Site is on National Register of Historic Places. It has 19th century furnishings and unusual architecture. Interpretive Center has 130 Whitman portraits, letters, manuscripts, artifacts, Whitman's voice on tape and schoolmaster's desk. Guided tours, audio-visual show, museum shop/bookstore, picnic area. Handicapped accessible. Maps available for car tours or hikes of West Hills, including Jayne's Hill and Walt Whitman Trail.

1-4 p.m. Wed.-Fri., 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat. and Sun. June 15-Labor Day: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Fri., noon-5 p.m. Sat. and Sun.
