North Fork inns, hotels and bed & breakfasts

Here's a look at 10 various North Fork accommodations, based on either a stay or a tour.

Jedediah Hawkins Inn

This restored Victorian has been decorated with restraint (although some would take issue with the photo of Marilyn Monroe in one room). I stayed in the Rose Room, equipped with a gas fireplace, a flat-screen TV and a state-of-the-art sound system. Still, the gift basket promised on the inn's Web site never materialized, and the continental breakfast was a letdown, considering the caliber of the inn's restaurant, Jedediah. Doubles from $350, through October. 400 S. Jamesport Ave., Jamesport; 631-722-2900, jedediahhawkinsinn.com

Red Barn Bed & Breakfast

Linda Slezak showed me around the cozy farmhouse she owns with her husband, Jim. The two guest bedrooms and two-room suite have pretty quilts and some antique furnishings. Other pluses: central air conditioning and private bathrooms. The three-course breakfast includes eggs from a nearby farm. Rooms start at $175; the suite, $300. 733 Herricks Lane.,Jamesport; 631-722-3695, redbarnbandb.com

North Fork Table & Inn

The four rooms upstairs from the inn's destination restaurant are comfortable and tasteful, if not posh. The real lure of spending the night is the breakfast by renowned pastry chef Claudia Fleming and her chef-husband, Gerry Hayden. Even the coffee, roasted locally by Aldo's Too of Greenport, is noteworthy. All rooms, $250. 57225 Main Rd., Southold; 631-765-0177, northforktableandinn.com

Bartlett House Inn

Not only is the carefully restored 1908 former home of New York Assemb. John Bartlett the largest bed and breakfast on the North Fork (10 guest rooms and baths), it is also a contender for best decorated. No surprise that Diane Gilmore, who owns the inn with her husband, Jack, is a professional interior decorator. Continental breakfast included. Doubles $150 to $215, through October. 503 Front St., Greenport; 631-477-0371, bartletthouseinn.com
