The Manor is on the national register of historic places and its history spans more than three centuries, from 1692 to present.  British forces occupied the Manor briefly during the Revolutionary War.

President George Washington stayed there during his tour of Long Island in 1790.  The Manor is a collection of period rooms furnished by the Thompson-Gardiner family  and includes a cemetery and walled garden.
