Movie buzz: Mariah Carey, 'Avatar' and Ellsberg
WHO Mariah Carey
THE MOVIE "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire"
THE DEAL The Harborfields grad will continue down the path toward legitimate actor when she receives the breakthrough performance award for her role in "Precious" at the 21st Palm Springs International Film Festival in January, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Carey surprised moviegoers by playing a decidedly unglamorous social worker in the film. Her past movies include the indie drama "Tennessee" and the infamous flop "Glitter."
THE MOVIE "Avatar"
THE DEAL Twentieth Century Fox is still pushing cutting-edge technology as the big selling point for James Cameron's "Avatar," due in theaters Dec. 18. The sci-fi film's latest trailer, released earlier this week, is an application of sorts that took four months to create, the Los Angeles Times reports. Once downloaded, it can gather "Avatar" news from the Web. It also features mini-documentaries on the making of the movie.
