Movie buzz: Orlando Bloom to star in 'The Good Doctor'

THE MOVIE "The Good Doctor"
THE DEAL The actor, best known for his dreamboat role in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, plans a departure in this thriller. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bloom plays a frustrated doctor who schemes to prolong a young patient's kidney treatment. Also in the cast: Michael Peña, Taraji P. Henson, Rob Morrow and J.K. Simmons.
THE MOVIE "Herb & Dorothy"
THE DEAL This documentary about a postal worker and a librarian whose keen eyes for avant-garde art turned them into highly respected collectors - despite their limited income and an apartment barely big enough for their hundreds of purchases - was a hit at the 2008 Hamptons International Film Festival. Next week, the film kicks off the Port Jefferson Documentary Series; director Megumi Sasaki will appear for the screening.

THE MOVIE "The Messenger"
THE DEAL Tuesday's Oscar nominations included a supporting actor nod for Woody Harrelson as an unstable soldier in this acclaimed indie drama, which is having a brief return engagement. The film, also nominated for original screenplay, follows two Army veterans as they face an assignment almost as tough as battle: knocking on doors to deliver bad news to families. Ben Foster and Samantha Morton also star.
