Robert Downey Jr. is the highest-earning actor in Hollywood this past year, with an estimated $75 million take, according to Forbes magazine's annual list.
The "Iron Man 3" and upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" star held the same spot at the same amount last year. With his Marvel movies having earned almost $4 billion at the global box office and millions more via merchandising and home media, Downey, 49, had the clout to secure more upfront money for the currently filming "Ultron" than he ever has, the magazine said.
Another Marvel star, Chris Hemsworth, 30, who plays Thor in the upcoming "Ultron" and in last year's "Thor: The Dark World," came in at No. 5, with $37 million.
The No. 2 slot went to pro wrestler turned actor Dwayne Johnson, who starred in last year's ensemble movies "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Fast & Furious 6," and this Friday headlines "Hercules." Contributing to his $52 million: hosting and producing the reality-TV show "The Hero." Johnson, 42, is also producing and starring in the upcoming HBO football comedy "Ballers."
Forbes consulted agents, managers and other industry sources to reach its entertainment-related earnings estimates for the period between June 2013 and June 2014.
