WHO Stephen Lang

THE MOVIE "American Dresser"

THE DEAL Lang, who played the scarred and snarling Col. Quaritch in "Avatar," has signed on for the lead role in this locally filmed and locally produced drama, according to the production company Go With the Flo Films. Lang will play John Moore, a man whose cross-country motorcycle trip takes an unexpected turn when he picks up a young loner. The writer and director is Carmine Cangialosi; the motorcycles will come from 20th Century Cycles, the Oyster Bay gallery owned by Billy Joel, who is a consulting producer on the film. Shooting is set to begin in September.

WHO Kellan Lutz

THE MOVIE "Love Is All You Need?"

THE DEAL The actor best known as Emmett Cullen in the "Twilight" movies has signed on for this indie film about a world where homosexuality is the norm and male-female romances are kept in the closet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lutz will play an aspiring sports journalist and Camilla Belle ("When a Stranger Calls") is in negotiations to play a female quarterback who falls for him. East Meadow-raised Rachel Diana and screenwriter Kim Rocco Shields will produce through their company, WingSpan Pictures.

WHO Joseph Gordon-Levitt

THE MOVIE "Looper"

THE DEAL This futuristic thriller, which reteams writer-director Rian Johnson with his "Brick" star, Gordon-Levitt, will open this year's Toronto International Film Festival, which runs Sept. 6-16. It's an unusual choice for the festival's opening slot, which tends to go to Canadian films, but Gordon-Levitt is enjoying a new level of stardom with his major part in the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises." In "Looper," he plays a time-traveling hit man sent to kill an older version of himself, played by Bruce Willis. It's set for release Sept. 28.
