Billy Joel on Paramount, Ryan Star
Count Billy Joel as another fan of The Paramount Theater in Huntington.
“I haven't seen a thing like that on Long Island since the '60s. There used to be all these great clubs – the Action House, My Father's Place and all these great places in Suffolk County. They all sort of dried up. This like a throwback to the glory days of rock and roll.”
“It's a pretty ambitious project,” he adds. “I'm glad these guys are doing it, and I think Huntington is a terrific town for it.”
Joel, who was there on opening night to see Elvis Costello and returned last month to see The Goo Goo Dolls, says he was glad he got to see Dix Hills native Ryan Star at The Paramount.
“He was great,” Joel says. “I didn't even know he was a Long Island guy. I was there for the Goo Goo Dolls, and I didn't even know there was an opening act. I said, 'Who's this guy?' I was really impressed with him. He's got great stage presence. He's got really good material. He's got a good band ... This guy was jumping all over the room, hanging off the balconies and I thought, 'Hey, I used to do -- like that.'”
