Hoodie Allen drops free 'Crew Cuts' mixtape
Hoodie Allen is having quite the day.
The Long Island rapper, whose last album “All American” hit No. 1 on iTunes and debuted in Billboard's Top 10, released a new mixtape “Crew Cuts” this afternoon on his website and has already seen it downloaded more than 40,000 times.
Though he's offering “Crew Cuts” for free download, the clever, pop-leaning single “Fame Is for [expletive]” featuring Chiddy is still in the Top 20 on the iTunes hip-hop singles charts and “All American” has rebounded into the Top 10 on the Hip-Hop Albums chart. Excitement for “Crew Cuts” release got so intense this morning that #CrewCuts was trending nationally on Twitter.
“It's just crazy that we wanted that to trend and it did,” Allen said, adding that he's trying hard to respond to fans' comments about the mixtape on Twitter. “There's no way I'm going to be able to do it,” he says. “But I'm going to try.”
Allen is set to launch his spring tour in Pittsburgh on March 5 and wind up with a show at Roseland Ballroom on April 13. (We'll have more of our interview with Allen next week in Newsday.)
You can download “Crew Cuts” for free at his site. For a taste, here's Allen's video for “Fame Is for [expletive]” (watch the language, kids!)
