Rock Hall inductees: Guns N' Roses, Beasties, Chili Peppers, but no Joan Jett

Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been chosen for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, practically guaranteeing a wild 2012 induction night in Cleveland on April 14.

Also set to be honored are singer-songwriter Laura Nyro, British Invasion vet Donovan, and '60s rockers The Faces/The Small Faces – along with early influence inductee bluesman Freddie King, non-performer inductee rock music TV pioneer Don Kirshner, and musical excellence inductees producers Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns.

“We are pleased to announce this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, who represent the broad spectrum of artists that define rock and roll,” says Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Long Island Music Hall of Famers Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Eric B. and Rakim were on the shortlist of nominees this year, but did not gain enough support from the Rock Hall's voting group of more than 500 rock experts to be inducted. It was the first time on the ballot for both acts.

Part of the suspense for next year's induction ceremonies will come from who shows up. With so many estranged former members, exactly who from Guns N' Roses will attend and whether they will perform will undoubtedly be a mystery up until the big night. It's no secret that frontman Axl Rose and the rest of the bandmates who made the band's legendary “Appetite for Destruction” album aren't on the best of terms, with Rose the only original member left in Guns N' Roses.

Another question mark will be the Beastie Boys, who haven't had a live performance since Adam “MCA” Yauch was diagnosed with cancer in his parotid gland in 2009, though the band has since announced that he has beaten the disease.

The induction ceremony will be held in Cleveland in April, instead of its usual home at the Waldorf-Astoria in Midtown, and not be carried live. A special from the event is set to air in May on HBO.
