Smaller 'Escape' fest to return

The “Escape 2 New York” organizers are back as promised this summer, but their plans aren't quite as grand this time around.

Unlike last year's massive affair on the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton, organizers announced today plans for a much-smaller “Escape to Montauk.” The three-day festival is set for Aug. 3-5 at the Sole East Resort in Montauk, featuring a scaled-down version of the combination of music, art, food and experiments they debuted last year.

“This is a slightly different event from last year's Escape to New York in that Escape to Montauk is a small event, suited to the local area,” co-founder Rocco Gardner said in a statement. “We work hard at Escape, whether it's with a tribe or a beach side community, to tailor our event and to fit in with each of our hosts in an appropriate manner.”

It's not clear whether Escape to Montauk will feature major headliners like last year's Patti Smith and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. So far, The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr. is the biggest act announced and he will be doing a DJ set instead of playing with his band.

Organizers say a complete lineup and ticket information will be announced soon.
