Super Bowl music live blog -- Beyoncé, Alicia Keys and more
Music is integral to the Super Bowl experience, especially this year when Beyonce's halftime show will likely draw bigger ratings than the game itself. We'll be liveblogging from the pre-game festivities through all the game's commercials.
10:21 p.m. More thoughts on Beyonce's halftime show.
9:35 p.m. Awww, the Budweiser commercial featuring Stevie Nicks' "Landslide" is sweet.
9:24 p.m. It's a bad sign for this year's music haul that Psy's remake of "Gangnam Style" for the pistachios people is a highlight.
8:22 p.m. "Thank you all for this moment," Beyoncé says. And with that, it's done. It's a spectacle, but not as overpowering as her shows can be.
8:20 p.m. A more rock-oriented version of "Halo," with Beyoncé catching her breath.
8:17 p.m. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams hang out to help on "Single Ladies."
8:16 p.m. Hey, it's a Destiny's Child reunion! "Bootylicious" snippet followed by "Independent Women."
8:15 p.m. "Baby Boy" made the cut, Not expecting that. Maybe because the graphics were so good?
8:12 p.m. "End of Time" sounds awesome. Interesting that B has built in time for thank yous and posing for this jam-packed show.
8:10 p.m. "Crazy in Love" -- recorded Jay-Z, no live Hova.
8:09 p.m. Here we go... "Love on Top" a capella.
7:45 p.m. Speaking of "We Are Young"...Taco Bell turns it into "Viva Young" en Español starring senior citizens.
7:28 p.m. Wow. Halfway through the second quarter and no breakout songs in the commercials yet. Where is this year's "We Are Young"? Luckily, the game is still interesting.
6:30 p.m. Not really sure this ad makes me want to buy a Hyundai, but it sure is nice to see the Flaming Lips get some Super Bowl cash. Maybe people will buy "The Soft Bulletin" with their Hyundai?
6:23 p.m. Alicia Keys sings the "The Star-Spangled Banner" live, accompanying herself on the piano. Her version is strong, though it does seem interesting that she was oh-so-slightly off at the end, while also doing that weird ad-lib. Ways to put to rest any lip-syncing controversy?
6:18 p.m. Jennifer Hudson and the Sandy Hook Elementary School Chorus perform “America the Beautiful.” Seeing these kids' smiling faces and their cute sidestep is uplifting, but it's almost a reminder of how much was lost in Newtown, Conn. J.Hud was awesome as usual.
6:14 p.m. So far, no music from this century in the Super Bowl pre-game. CBS uses Queen's "We Will Rock You" for the open. Ravens enter to U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" (um, why?) and 49ers enter to 2Pac's "California Love."
6 p.m. Still no confirmation about whether Destiny's Child will reunite during the halftime show. Didn't really expect one, but just wanted the chance to post this video of Michelle Williams stumbling again -- not that we hope that would happen tonight.
