When California boy band Emblem3 got eliminated from this season's “The X Factor” before the finals, it crystallized the difference between the way the music industry works and the way music competition shows work.

Emblem3 — teenage brothers Wesley and Keaton Stromberg and 20-year-old friend Drew Chadwick — are exactly what the music industry wants these days. They're young, good-looking, likable guys who can sing. They couldn't out-sing their competition, but, generally, they could outperform them, including the season's winner Tate Stevens. The problem was that the show's audience, which, like “American Idol,” skews older and more country-loving than the typical music fan, wasn't that into them.

No worries, though. Their “X Factor” mentor Simon Cowell has signed them to Columbia Records through his Syco Music label, making then the first of the season's acts to get a major-label deal, aside from the one Stevens received for winning the show.

“Wesley, Drew and Keaton are complete stars,” Cowell said in a statement. “They have a great attitude, are fun and genuinely love music. They deserve this and I’m really pleased we are continuing working together.”

Emblem3 is already at work on their major-label debut, already set to collaborate with fun.'s Jack Antonoff, Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden, and producer Savan Kotecha.

“I hope we cannot only produce some empowering tunes, but also impact other people in a positive way and maybe help brighten things up a bit,” Wesley Stromberg said. “Music is all we`ve ever wanted to do — and this is what we love to do.”
