Calderon kicked off the evening with a smart, though initially shaky, EDM/R&B version of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”

Simone Torres, the 19-year-old student from Port Jefferson Station once considered a front-runner in this season’s “The X Factor,” was cut Thursday night.
Torres, who attends the Berklee College of Music, performed an ill-advised, up-tempo version of the Sam Cooke classic “A Change Is Gonna Come” that did not go over well, despite her strong, distinctive voice.

“The X Factor” is now offering free tickets to its upcoming audition shows at Nassau Coliseum from June 19 to 21.
The shows will feature the full judging panel – Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio – evaluating those singers who received “golden tickets” from the open call that drew 16,000 contestants at the Coliseum in April.
