As “The X Factor” finally gets to its live rounds next week, the reality of its limited talent pool becomes clearer. Unlike previous years where there were several strong possibilities, this time out, it’s a bit thin.

Emery Kelly, the final Long Islander left in this season’s “X Factor,” after auditions at the Nassau Coliseum, was cut in the last elimination as the judges reached their 16 finalists.

Holbrook’s Al Calderon was eliminated from “The X Factor” in one of the craziest decisions in the show’s history.
Calderon kicked off the evening with a smart, though initially shaky, EDM/R&B version of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”
Reaction was mixed. “You had a really, really great energy,” judge Demi Lovato said, before adding, “There were times when it was a little pitchy.”

Simone Torres, the 19-year-old student from Port Jefferson Station once considered a front-runner in this season’s “The X Factor,” was cut Thursday night.
Torres, who attends the Berklee College of Music, performed an ill-advised, up-tempo version of the Sam Cooke classic “A Change Is Gonna Come” that did not go over well, despite her strong, distinctive voice.
