The third week of battle rounds was far closer and far more emotional than last week, with all the competitors doing their best.

Team Adam: Pip vs. Nathan Parrett, “You Know I'm No Good”

Here's one of those battles that comes down to taste. Christina Aguilera hit the nail on the head – Pip comes across as a little too Broadway. That's great for aspiring Broadway performers, but it's a bit of a hindrance for pop singers. Nathan Parrett's vocals sounded a bit more believable, without giving up any power.

SHOULD HAVE ADVANCED: Nathan

Team Cee Lo: The Shields Brothers vs. Erin Martin, “What's Love Got to Do With It”

What a weird matchup and a weird song for them to sing. Erin's voice is unique and entertaining, but she went too far afield. The Shields Brothers, on the other hand, didn't go far enough, but they were on point. Cee Lo says he picked Erin because he felt he could add more to her career, which is probably fair.

Team Christina: Ashley De La Rosa vs. Jonathas, “No Air”

Ashley was outclassed by Jonathas at the beginning. They both lost their way in the middle. Then Ashley pulled it out at the end, her vocal runs showing potential.

Team Blake: Jermaine Paul vs. AlyX, “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car”

The first blowout of the night. Jermaine, Alicia Keys' backup singer, turned the Billy Ocean song into something different, while AlyX struggled to keep up. Jermaine's voice is strong and distinctive, with so many different possibilities.

SHOULD HAVE ADVANCED: Jermaine

Team Adam: Angel Taylor vs. Katrina Parker, “Bleeding Love”

On paper, Angel Taylor should have walked all over Katrina Parker. Angel had a record contract as recently as last year, while Katrina is a newcomer. Angel has a unique voice and delivery. However, Katrina basically blew her out of the water, with memorable power and control.

SHOULD HAVE ADVANCED: Katrina

Team Blake: Gwen Sebastian vs. Erin Willett, “We Belong”

This was fantastic. Either one of them could actually have a hit with Lindenhurst native Pat Benatar's song right now, though Gwen's countrified version would likely be a bigger hit. Nevertheless, Erin's voice is so warm and so powerful that her possibilities are grander.
