To wrap up “The Voice” playoffs, Usher’s final choices last night were tough ones.
But it didn’t seem that Usher figured in the fact that the public starts voting on who moves ahead in the season next week. Aside from likable underdog dad Josh Kaufman, who was head-and-shoulders above the rest of the team, Usher went with skill over likability in his other choices since the others were all...Read more »
Just when we thought the battle rounds were over, “The Voice” added a whole new set of battles starting next week. Um, thanks?
Those will likely be the toughest cuts, as they go from 32 to 20 semifinalists, coached by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
However, the final battle round had its share of rough decisions. Here’s how they stacked up:
TEAM ADAM: Cary Laine vs. Sam...Read more »
So far this season, “The Voice” hasn’t developed a crop of front-runners the way it has in the past. That makes the battle rounds seem that much more important at creating the kind of star they desperately want.
Here’s how Night 1 shook out:
TEAM USHER: Biff Gore vs. T.J. Wilkins, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”
“Don’t dial back the emotion,” Usher tells them before the battle, and then...Read more »
CeeLo Green won’t be turning his chair for “The Voice” any longer.
One of the singing competition’s original four judges, Green told Ellen DeGeneres on a show airing today that he would not be returning for a seventh season of “The Voice." (Green was already sitting out the sixth season, which begins on Monday.)
“I don’t want to wear out my welcome,” Green told DeGeneres, adding that...Read more »
Welcome to the Summer of Pharrell!
It’s a rare feat in today’s pop music world to be involved in the Top 2 songs in the country at any given time, the way Pharrell is currently on “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke and T.I. and “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk.
What makes it even rarer is that the singer/songwriter/producer has even more songs already set for release. And that doesn’t even...Read more »
“The Voice” semifinals was filled with surprises, though most of them didn’t turn out too well.
Maybe it was Usher’s odd performance of “Twisted” that started things off on the wrong foot. It’s only natural that he releases that song as a single now, considering that it is set to become the summer of Pharrell, who already has hit collaborations with Daft Punk and Robin Thicke.
However,...Read more »
Oh, it’s on now.
This season, “The Voice” has taken a turn into mainstream country – partly because of the popularity of coach Blake Shelton and partly because of the collapse of “American Idol,” previously the singing competition of choice for the older, Southern, country-loving voting block.
With last week’s elimination of one-time front-runners Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons (as well...Read more »
With Monday night’s show, “The Voice” moves into the part of the season that could end “American Idol” dominance for good.
What “Idol” has held over “The Voice” is its ability to create superstar success – something that has eluded the first three winners, Javier Colon, Jermaine Paul and Cassadee Pope. Now, it looks like “The Voice” is serious about changing that, with its Top 8 getting to...Read more »
It was an off night for “The Voice.”
Maybe it was the news of the deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma, home to coach Blake Shelton and contestants The Swon Brothers, that set the show on edge. Maybe it was the insistence of Adam Levine that Judith Hill pay homage to her mentor Michael Jackson, even though it clearly still makes her uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. Or maybe after a season of...Read more »
This is probably the toughest of “The Voice” performance shows because there is so little time for all 12 contestants to perform. It’s the one show of the season where “The Voice” becomes very much like “American Idol” — without, you know, all the dysfunction.
The show is also the first one where mentors can no longer save their teams — only votes determine who moves forward. It’s also the...Read more »
