This week's "American Idol" theme seems to be cabaret. Three past "Idol" finalists have each gotten a golden ticket taking them to 54 Below, the Manhattan nightspot where the best of Broadway come to play on their off nights and after hours.
Kicking things off at 7p.m. Wednesday will be Justin Guarini, who finished second to Kelly Clarkson in season 1. Guarini, who's been on Broadway in "American Idiot" and, more recently, "Romeo and Juliet," will take the stage with composer Drew Gasparini performing some of the songsmith's tunes, including those from the stage (the musical "Crazy") and the tube (NBC's "Smash").
Then, at 9:30 Wednesday and Thursday nights, season 3 runner-up Diana DeGarmo and season 5 finalist Ace Young will be on hand for an album launch concert. The twosome, who got engaged on the May 2012 "Idol" finale and were married in June, will perform songs from the pop-rock concept album "Samson and Delilah," the title of an upcoming musical starring the newlyweds. Well, "Samson and Delilah" seems like a natural progression for the couple after "Hair."
