There's nothing like a raucous red carpet to get style watchers' hearts pumping -- and some may need defibrillators after Sunday night's 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
This awards show is one of the last places you can go to catch outrageous fashion, now that the acting awards shows have gone tame with celebs all cloned by a handful of Hollywood stylists. But the VMAs? This is where Lady Gaga wore steak tartar, Busta Rhymes rocked a kimono, and guyliner's more common than cuff links.
- Creed singer Scott Stapp says he's broke, living in a hotel
- Brooks cancels 'Tonight', cites Ferguson
- Ribeiro on why 'DWTS' victory was 'worth waiting for'
- Tom Hanks son Chet Hanks reveals he checked into rehab, says he's now 'clean and sober'
- At MSG, Joel still rock and roll to 2 high school friends
So, of course, Miley Cyrus arrived in blonde devil horns and a spandex-y number hoisted from half a mariachi band.
Lady Gaga was tame by comparison -- a black mermaid gown with blown-out Lennon shades.
Best red carpet mash-up had to be leopard hottie Katy Perry sharin' the love with '80s fitmeister Richard Simmons, in green leggings and red sequin tank. For him, that's JAS (just another Sunday).
"I'm just tryin' to bust a little Angelina Jolie," Perry said, regarding the slit skirt of her leopard Ungaro.
Some ladies glammed up -- Ciara (in Givenchy Couture), Iggy Azalea (in Emilio Pucci) and Selena Gomez (scantily unzipped Versace).
Too many guys took to hiding behind all-black. (We mean you, One Direction.) It looked slick, sure, on guys like Austin Mahone and Robin Thicke.
But at the VMAs, why not break out your Rorschach-print blazer (Wanz), or go all-out Versace (2Chainz)?
