Kanye West leads the list of Grammy nominees this year with eight nods for his chart-topping album "Graduation," but the night could belong to neo-soul singer Amy Winehouse, whose six nominations include bids in all top four categories, including song, record and album of the year.
Winehouse -- whose musical successes with her breakthrough album "Back to Black" have been tempered by her stints in rehab, her run-ins with the cops and her tour cancellations -- is the only artist who could potentially sweep the top categories, when the winners are announced Feb. 10 at the Los Angeles Staples Center.
That domination was only one of several surprises at Thursday's announcements in Los Angeles, which saw Herbie Hancock's jazzy "River: The Joni Letters" land an album of the year nomination and the virtually unknown neo-soul singer Ledisi get a nod for best new artist.
Hancock will compete with Winehouse and West in the album of the year category, along with Foo Fighters' "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" and Vince Gill's "These Days."
The eclectic nominations in the category pushed out veteran Bruce Springsteen, who landed four other nominations for "Magic" and top-seller Daughtry, for "Daughtry." The "American Idol" finalist also missed out on a best new artist nomination, even though his album landed four other nods and is the year's biggest-selling non-soundtrack.
Other top nominees include Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, who all landed five nods.
