Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls died today of cancer. He was 64.

McLaren was known as much for his self-promotion as he was for the promotion of his acts, helping raise the Sex Pistols' cultural profile more through buzz than musicianship. In the '80s, after launching the career of Bow Wow Wow, McLaren decided to skip the middleman and became an artist himself, releasing the multi-cultural album "Duck Rock."

Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten said in a statement, "For me, Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you.”
