Will Jimmy Fallon will be the next Conan O'Brien? Probably.
NBC yesterday declined to comment on reports that the former "Saturday Night Live" star - gone two years now from the NBC classic - will be the one to replace O'Brien after he joins "Tonight" in May 2009, but it's almost certainly a sure bet. Both Variety and Hollywood Reporter yesterday said Fallon will replace O'Brien; Foxnews.com was the first to report yesterday that Fallon will take over one off the most coveted jobs in television.
An NBC spokesman declined to comment last night, but Variety reported that Fallon's appointment will be announced mid-May.
Fallon left "SNL" two years ago to pursue a big screen career (and a small screen one too - his "Car Wash for Peace" song was an Internet hit.) Brooklyn-born and raised upstate (Saugerties), he joined "SNL" in the late '90s, left in 2006, and has been mentioned prominently (and frequently) as the likely replacement for O'Brien.
