30 Rock. Tonight at 8:30 on NBC/4.
Reason for watching: Pretty much same as last week; You're a discriminating viewer, etc. But here's two more - check out an amusing cameo from TV veteran Tim Conway, and the return of Dean Winters as Dennis Duffy, Liz's loutish loserish love interest.
What it's about: Two things, actually. First, Jack ( Alec Baldwin) wants New York's acclaimed subway hero on "TGS." The guy saved someone from being killed by a train, and now he's the toast of the town; only hang-up: He's Duffy, Liz's ( Tina Fey) ex, and the guy who was a beeper salesman and ("exonerated") "Dateline" predator. He's as dorkish as ever - he thanks "Mayor Bloomberger" when the mayor honors him - and Liz is horrified.
Meanwhile, Jack needs to bring a "celebrity Republican" to the McCain dinner, but both Bruce Willis and Jim Belushi insist on singing, so that leaves Bucky Bright (Conway) who was famous in "the '40s, '50s and the fall of '72." Jack's uninterested and instead tries to recruit Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), who's understandably reluctant, but comes around. As for Duffy? He's been down on his luck ("failed the firefighters' exam - it's totally biased against the Irish") but now wants Liz back. And Liz ...?
Bottom line: Another first-rate "30 Rock." Two weeks in a row. Maybe it'll falter next week, or the one after that, or... .
